Security - Privacy Practices
Your health information is personal, and we are committed to preserving the confidential health information created or maintained at our hospital. Your health information is important to our ability to provide your with quality care, and to comply with certain laws that apply to all records about your care that occurs at our facility, whether the records are maintained by the hospital or by your physician.
We are required by the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) as well as state laws to: Maintain the privacy of your confidential health information, also your "protected health information or "PHI" and provide you with this notice of our duties and practices regarding your health information. This notice is completed during your admission process, unless on file from a previous admission, and maintained in your medical record. Safety guidelines are followed to enhance your safety. Devices may include, but not limited to side rails or out-of-bed alarms. I f you have concerns for yourself or your loved one, consult you nurse. A nurse call system is in place at your bedside, restroom and bathing facilities. Please use these for assistance as needed.
Battery powered appliances are allowed; however, for your safety and the safety of others, some electrical devices are not allowed. Check with your nurse. She will have equipment checked by our Bio-Medical Technician.
Fire or Disaster Drills
During your stay at St. Francis, you may hear systems being activated. We perform practice drills, so in the event of an actual fire or disaster your safety will be assured by our staff responding in an appropriate manner. During the drills, you will hear "Code Red" announced over the system, accompanied by the actions of staff members who are assigned certain functions, such as closing doors and windows, etc., generally simulating the preparations for evacuation if it were to become necessary.
We realize this might present some discomfort during your hospital stay however, our concern for your safety is important. We appreciate your understanding.
